Forest fire claims one in Dhankuta


Dhankuta – Fires in 13 different community forests in Dhnakuta have caused damage of around Rs 20 million in the district, the Dhankuta chapter of Federation of Community Forestry Users’ Nepal (FECOFUN) said. 
Likewise, Banu Chhara Rai, 51, of Shahid Bhumi Rural Municipality-2 died in the fire at Panchakanya Community Forest in the rural municipality. 


Similarly, five cow sheds and four houses were gutted after the fire in Jal Kanya Community Forest in Dhankuta Municipality-9 reached the human settlement. 


District chair of FECOFUN Rajendra Khadka said that the users have witnessed the loss of around Rs 20 million after the plants and medicinal herbs were destroyed in the fires. 


The fires caused due to human errors have caused a huge loss in Dhankuta this year. It is said that 100 hectares of forest in Bhanjyang Danda Community Forest, 36 hectares of forests in Badare Community Forest, 191 hectares of forest in Thulibhir Community Forest, 500 hectares of forest of Pathibhara Community Forest and others were also destroyed in the fire.
