Koireli village in Jumla is model VAW-free village

Surkhet –Koireli village of Hima Rural Municipality-2 in Jumla district has been declared a model village free of violence against women (VAW).

The village was declared as a model village free of any kind of violence against women through the efforts of Hima Rural Municipality and facilitation of the local VAW-free model village steering committee.

Inaugurating the declaration programme, Hima Rural Municipality vice chairperson Himali Rokaya said the declaration of Koireli as a model village free of VAW is a welcome move which will send a positive message in the community.

She said the Hima Rural Municipality has focused on programmes for making the women in the rural municipality self-reliant and lessening their work burden by setting up flour and rice mill and providing tailoring, hosiery and other handicraft training to them.

Human rights activist Laxmi Kanya Budha claimed that Koireli is the first model VAW-free village in the country. She opined that the 130 women of 35 households in the village have created history.
