Local flowers in high demand as plastic garlands banned (photos)
Kathmandu, November 1 — Since Friday morning, flower trading has been bustling in various areas of Kathmandu, including Swayambhu, Basantapur, and Kasthamandap. The streets are crowded with buyers and sellers of flower garlands.
During Tihar, popular flowers such as marigolds, areca nuts, and chrysanthemums are being sold by vendors for prices ranging from NPR 150 to NPR 350 per garland.
With the government's ban on plastic flower garlands, the trade of locally sourced flowers in Kathmandu has increased compared to previous years.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has designated 47 locations for flower sales throughout Tihar, resulting in crowds of buyers and sellers even in other areas.
