CAAN urges Indian authorities to address repeated bomb threats on flights
Kathmandu, October 28 — After receiving repeated threatening notifications claiming that bombs were placed on aircraft arriving from India, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has expressed concern to the Indian authorities. CAAN has urged the Indian government to address the issue through regulatory channels.
On Monday, a bomb threat was reported on an Air India flight, causing the aircraft, which was ready for takeoff with boarding passes issued, to be held for more than two hours. Similar incidents have occurred in recent days, with false rumors spreading not only about flights coming to Nepal but also regarding those traveling from India to various other countries.
CAAN's information officer, Gyanendra Bhul, noted that threats have been specifically directed at Indian airlines, prompting requests to address the situation through both formal and informal channels.
"The problem seems to arise from their side rather than ours, and there is little we can do. However, there have been instances where flights were held for hours due to these threats. Therefore, we have called for identifying and taking action against those spreading false information," Bhul stated.
