Deuba and Thapa set for meeting amid ordinance rumors

Kathmandu, October 21 — A meeting is set to take place between Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress, and General Secretary Gagan Thapa. This discussion comes in the wake of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's preparations to introduce an ordinance concerning party split.

Prime Minister Oli has been persistently urging Deuba regarding the ordinance. In this context, Oli had summoned Deuba to Baluwatar on Sunday. However, it appears that Deuba has remained silent on the issue of introducing the ordinance.

Initially, discussions were held between Oli and Deuba. Later, leaders including UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, Bishnu Paudel, and from Congress, Deuba along with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and General Secretary Gagan Thapa, arrived at Baluwatar. There are apparent disagreements within Congress regarding the ordinance.

Former Prime Minister and chair of the Unified Socialist Party, Madhav Nepal, along with General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal and other leaders, have been urging Oli to halt the ordinance. A Cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister's Office in Singhadurbar this evening. One minister has indicated that the ordinance may be presented today.
