Daunne: Landslide blocks highway again; new track underway

Kathmandu, October 5 — The East-West highway in the Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) section at Daunne has been completely blocked since 5:10 AM due to landslides. After being closed and then briefly reopened, the highway was again obstructed by landslides, leading to a total halt of traffic since this morning.

According to the Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Scheme Shrestha, work has begun to open a new track as the landslides on the old track have not stopped. It will take some more time to clear the highway.

"We are making efforts. If there are no technical issues, it should be cleared in one and a half to two hours," she stated. Senior Vice President of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitaula, mentioned that nearly seven hundred vehicles heading from Kathmandu and the east to the west are currently stuck at Daunne due to the landslides.
