Home Minister Lekhak appreciates World Bank’s reconstruction support

Kathmandu, September 6 —David Sislen, the World Bank’s National Director for Nepal, and other officials had a meeting with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak today. The meeting, held at the Home Minister’s office, focused on discussing the World Bank's investment in various projects in Nepal.

The Home Minister highlighted that World Bank loans and technical assistance had been instrumental in the reconstruction efforts following the 2015 earthquake. Sislen expressed interest in the remaining tasks that need to be completed before the World Bank can disburse further loans to Nepal.

Sislen said, “There is still significant work to be done before the final installment of the loan can be released. The final installment is contingent upon meeting criteria related to disaster-sensitive social security and subsidy distribution. We are prepared to continue providing financial support to Nepal in the area of disaster management.”

The Home Minister assured that there would be no delays on his part and expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its support. He also pointed out that managing disaster recovery through debt alone is not sufficient, emphasizing the need for increased grant projects to address the impacts of climate change.
