RSP removes Chandan Swarnakar as Bara district president

Kathmandu, September 5 — The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has removed Chandan Swarnakar from his role as Bara District President due to disciplinary issues.

According to Party Joint General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti, Swarnakar’s responsibilities were reassigned approximately 15 days ago by the party’s province working committee. He has been retained as a member of the provincial committee but stripped of other duties.

The action follows a complaint lodged with the party’s Central Disciplinary Commission, accusing Swarnakar of sexually abusing a woman by intoxicating her. The complaint was discussed in the presence of party Vice-President DP Aryal and included input from around 20 party officials and district members.

The Disciplinary Commission concluded that the issues raised were criminal in nature and beyond its jurisdiction. The commission also found evidence of Swarnakar’s involvement in illegal activities, including smuggling at the border, which they deemed a serious concern.

Regarding the complainant, the Disciplinary Commission noted that her behavior was politically unacceptable. Consequently, Swarnakar has been suspended as an ordinary member for one year under Rule 5 of the Disciplinary Commission Regulations. His conduct will be monitored by the Provincial Disciplinary Commission, which will provide a progress report every six months. If Swarnakar demonstrates significant improvement, the suspension may be reconsidered.

Additionally, the complainant has been barred from holding any party responsibilities or participating in internal political activities for one year.

Chandan’s Reaction

Chandan Swarnakar, who has been removed from his position, has expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him.

Swarnakar thanked the residents of Bara for their belief in him and their contributions to strengthening the party since its inception.

In a Facebook post, he stated, “During my time as coordinator for the Rashtriya Swotantra Party in Bara and Madhesh Province, I have worked according to the party’s constitution and the public’s opinion in these areas. I will continue to do so in the future.” He also requested that the residents of Bara and Madhesh Province, who have been affected by his removal from his responsibilities, stay informed about the developments.
