Nepal Bar Association unveils series of protests

Kathmandu, September 2 — The Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organization representing legal professionals, has announced a series of new protests. After surrounding the Judicial Council on Sunday, the bar has now organized a sit-in at the Supreme Court premises for today.

Gopalkrishna Ghimire, President of the Nepal Bar Association, stated that the bar has launched an ongoing movement.

Legal professionals from the Valley Bar Unit and the Supreme Court Bar Association are urged to participate in the sit-in at the Supreme Court from 2 pm to 3 pm.

The Bar has issued a notice inviting its members to join the protest against the controversial revised Judicial Council rules. The sit-in will be held regularly during this time at the Supreme Court premises.

Previously, the Bar submitted a memorandum to the Judicial Council and Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha. General Secretary Anjita Khanal informed that the decision to protest came after their request for rules amendment was denied. She emphasized that the protests will continue until the regulation is revised.
