Biratnagar. Due to the incessant rain in the hilly areas, the flow of water in Saptakosi river has increased.
According to the information given by the Sunsari police, the flow of water has reached 368,670 cusecs per hour as measured at 9:00 am today.
As the flow of water increased, a red flag has been hoisted at the Koshi barrage and all 56 gates of the barrage have been opened.
Saptakosi barrage can handle up to 400,000 cusecs per hour, police said. The flow of water is expected to increase further. The measurement at 8 o'clock was 3 lakh 49 thousand cusecs per hour and at 7 o'clock it was 3 lakh 42 thousand cusecs of water.
Naveenkrishna Bhandari, spokesperson of Sunsari Police, informed that after the increase in water flow, vigilance has been increased along the river bank.
