Rescue of Nepalis enlisted in Russian Army and held captive in Ukraine a top priority: Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has affirmed that the Foreign Ministry is actively engaged in prioritizing the rescue and safety of Nepalis enlisted in the Russian Army and those held captive in Ukraine.

During today's House of Representatives meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha clarified that no Nepali citizens have been officially sent for recruitment in the Russian Army.

He also disclosed ongoing discussions with his counterparts regarding the rescue of Nepali citizens caught in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Furthermore, Shrestha highlighted positive steps taken by the Russian government to compensate the families of Nepalis who lost their lives in the war.

He also mentioned efforts to repatriate Nepali citizens enlisted in the Russian Army by terminating their contracts.

Emphasizing the importance of implementing diplomatic protocols, Shrestha urged seriousness and restraint in matters concerning national welfare and foreign relations.

He called upon top leaders, provincial assemblies, and lawmakers to contribute to the discussion on the country's foreign policy and diplomatic relations based on national interest and consensus.
