Home Minister Lamichhane pushes for swift action against alleged gold smuggling, involving Ex-Speaker Mahara

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has directed officials to act promptly against those accused in the gold smuggling scandal, including former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

Lamichhane urged Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Inspector General of Police Basanta Kuwar, and Chief of the Crime Investigation Bureau Shyam Gwayali to swiftly implement recommendations from the Gold Smuggling Commission's report.

The Commission has implicated seven individuals, including Mahara, in a 60kg gold smuggling case allegedly involving vape devices.

Additionally, Lamichhane instructed the initiation of procedures to transfer ownership of the Bansbari Leather Shoe land to the government.

The decision to expedite the implementation of the probe commission's recommendations was taken during a recent Cabinet meeting.
