CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepal Samajbadi Party forge unity pact
KATHMANDU: In a breakthrough move, CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepal Samajbadi Party have sealed a pact to merge their entities, signaling a major shift in Nepal's political landscape.
Following high-level deliberations between key leaders from both sides, a joint statement was issued, affirming the decision to unite.
Present at the pivotal meeting were prominent figures including Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Senior Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and General Secretary Dev Gurung. Representing the Nepal Samajbadi Party were Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav, Vice Chairman Ganga Narayan Shrestha, and General Secretary Ramesh Prasad Yadav.
Conspicuously absent from the gathering was Babu Ram Bhattarai, the other Chairman of Nepal Samajbadi Party, whose dissent over the merger had previously caused internal discord between the party leadership.
While the agreement to merge has been cemented, both parties are yet to finalize the nomenclature for their unified front.
