Commission recommends legal action against seven including Ex-Speaker Mahara in gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: The Gold Smuggling Probe Commission has suggested filing a case against seven individuals, including former Parliament Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, regarding a 60kg gold smuggling incident involving vape devices.

During its investigation, the commission also took Mahara's statement.

It further advised legal action against Manjil Shrestha from Hong Kong, along with Abhinash Rawat and Jeevan Gurung.

Abhinash Rawat, employed as a driver for Bishnu Poudel, a Customs Office officer at Tribhuvan International Airport, is accused of facilitating the sale of smuggled gold via vape devices.

Jeevan Gurung, CEO of Platinum College in Dillibazar and currently detained for smuggling 14kg of gold from Dubai, is also implicated in the 60kg gold smuggling case, according to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
