Government decides to replace province chiefs in three provinces

KATHMANDU: The government has announced its decision to replace the Chiefs of Province in Gandaki, Madhes, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Consequently, the current Chiefs have been relieved of their duties, with new appointments being made.

During a meeting of the Council of Ministers today, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma disclosed that Sumitra Bhandari will assume the role of Chief in Madhes, Dilliraj Bhatt in Gandaki, and Nazir Miyan in Sudur Paschim.

They will succeed Harishankar Mishra, Prithviman Gurung, and Devraj Joshi in their respective provinces.

The cabinet meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar, also established committees within the Council of Ministers and appointed coordinators for these committees.

The Prime Minister has been designated as the coordinator of the political committee, the deputy prime minister and minister of physical infrastructure and transport as the coordinator of the economic infrastructure committee, the deputy prime minister and home minister as the coordinator of the bill committee, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister as the coordinator of the administration committee, and the deputy prime minister and minister of health and population as the coordinator of the social committee.

Following the meeting, Minister Sharma informed the media that the ruling coalition parties have reached an agreement to ensure the victory of the candidate nominated by the CPN (Maoist Center) in the upcoming election for the post of National Assembly Chairperson.

This decision aligns with the power-sharing arrangement among the coalition partners, with the Maoist Center securing the position of National Assembly Chairperson.
