Dahal and Sharma nominated for National Assembly Chair

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly witnessed the submission of candidacies for the esteemed position of Chairperson, with both the ruling alliance and opposition putting forth their nominees.

Representing the ruling alliance, Narayan Dahal of the CPN (Maoist Centre) stepped forward as a candidate, while Yubraj Sharma of the Nepali Congress (NC) emerged as the opposition's contender.

The candidacy filing window for the NA Chair election, scheduled from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm today, saw active participation from both sides, signaling the significance of the upcoming election set for Tuesday.

Gopi Bahadur Achhami, a member of the CPN (Maoist Centre), extended the nomination for Dahal, with backing from Devendra Dahal of CPN (UML), Beduram Bhusal of CPN (Unified Socialist), and Mohammad Khalid of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal.

In parallel, Ananda Prasad Dhungana from the NC proposed Sharma's candidacy, supported by Kiran Babu Shrestha of NC and Kishor Kumar Singh of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal.

The vacancy in the NA Chair arose following the conclusion of Ganesh Prasad Timilsina's tenure last week.
