Employees’ protest movement: All except urgent works suspended from today
KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The local level employees have further strengthened their protest movement from Friday. They are going to suspend all except urgent works in all the 753 local levels for an indefinite period.
The local-level employees who started a peaceful protest on Sunday at the Maitighar Mandala, have warned the government that their protests will continue if their demands are not addressed.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the Federal Civil Service Act, which is about to be submitted to the Parliament, the local-level employees have been protesting by forming a struggle committee. Committee coordinator Deepak Gautam told Ratopati that it has been decided to suspend all services except urgent ones from Friday. According to him, all local levels have been called to concentrate on Kathmandu for the movement.
The protesting employees have put forth demands that there should be a Chief Administrative Officer at the local level, equal development at all three levels, inter-provincial transfer, cyclical transfer system without consent, proper management of adjustment employees, calculation of age limit and service period, management of temporary and contract employees, and assurance of service security.
Similarly, the employees have demanded that a tiered system should be implemented at all three levels, and compulsory service entry and in-service training should be included in the law for local-level employees immediately after they enter service.
Likewise, they have demanded that a welfare fund should be made compulsory for the welfare of local employees and that employees of all three levels should have equal opportunities for professional development.
