Commission given mandate of 3 months to investigate gold smuggling
KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The top-level meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar has agreed to give a 3-month mandate to the Gold Smuggling Investigation Commission to investigate the various cases of the smuggling of gold.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Prachanda, UML Chairman KP Oli, Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, UML Whip Mahesh Bartaula and others.
A four-member Investigation Commission will be formed under the leadership of former Justice Dilliram Acharya. According to UML Whip Bartaula, the commission will be given a three-month mandate and it will prepare a report after a detailed investigation on the smuggling of gold.
Bartaula also added that the Commission will carry out an independent and impartial investigation into the various smuggling cases such as the gold hidden in electric cigarettes, gold smuggled through brake-shoe and others.
With the agreement, the demand of UML has been addressed and the obstruction on the Parliament has been lifted.
