Lalita Niwas Case: More than 18 billion charge amount to be paid

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has determined a charge amount of more than 18 billion in the land embezzlement case of the government land inside the Lalita Niwas camp in Baluwatar.

An Officer of the CIB told Ratopati that a 771-page-long investigation report has been submitted to the Government Attorney’s Office with a charge of more than 18 billion to those involved in the organized fraud.

CIB has opined to the government attorney that the charge amount should also be taken from the property of those involved in the scam who have already passed away. 21 people involved in the scam have already died. Among those, the former Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire had disappeared after an accident in Trisuli.

48 people have given an application to return the land of Lalita Niwas they bought. The Police have given an opinion that those who have submitted the application, will be maintained as defendants ‘only for the purpose of returning the land.’

238 people aside from those 48 people have been maintained as defendants for the crime of organized fraud and forgery in the land misappropriation, informed an Officer involved in the investigation.

CIB has concluded that 72969.16 sq. meters of the Lalita Niwas camp’s land have been misappropriated. And CIB has also concluded that former Ministers are involved in the scam and has suggested making four former Ministers including former Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar as defendants.
