UML to let Home Minister speak, will obstruct parliament again unless demands are fulfilled
KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The meeting between the top leaders along with the Speaker to end the obstruction of the parliament has ended without an agreement. After the government did not agree to CPN UML’s demands, UML said that it will let the House of Representatives meeting called for 3 pm run at first and let the Home Minister speak, but will obstruct the meeting if their demands are not fulfilled.
At the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader of the main opposition party KP Sharma Oli discussed reaching an agreement.
Talking to Ratopati after the meeting, UML whip Mahesh Bartaula said that at the beginning of the meeting, MPs and party leaders would not interrupt the meeting when amendments will be made, and the Home Minister would also be allowed to speak, but during the meeting, they would protest if their demands are not addressed.
He said that UML will keep on protesting until the government keeps on protecting the smugglers.
UML has been continuously obstructing the parliament demanding the formation of an investigation committee in the recent gold smuggling scandal.
After an understanding was not reached during the meetings of Monday held twice, it was decided to hold a meeting between the top leaders today. The House of Representatives meeting has been called for 3 pm today.
