Nigeria upsets co-host Australia in close match
July 27: Women's World Cup co-host Australia is in a tough spot as the opposing Nigeria came back from behind and beat the co-hosts by 3-2.
Australia scored the first goal of the match as Emily van Egmond came in clutch in the stoppage time of the first half. Nigeria quickly struck back with Uchenna Kanu's finish and took the lead in the second half as Osinachi Ohale delivered a header.
The deciding goal of the match was scored by Asisat Oshoala at the 72nd-minute mark for Nigeria. Australia tried to make a comeback as Allanna Kennedy delivered a goal at the stoppage time of the match but failed to grab the win.
Nigeria moves to the top of Group B, level with Canada on four points, while Australia is a point behind both before the last matches in the section on Monday.
Australia faces Canada in Melbourne and would need a victory to guarantee a place in the knockout stages, while Nigeria will play the already-eliminated Republic of Ireland at the same time in Brisbane.
