Prime Minister Prachanda inaugurates Budhigandaki project

GORKHA, July 19: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has inaugurated the field office of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project at Sirungtar in Gorkha.

The 1200 MW hydropower project is planned to be built in Gorkha, Sirungtar where an 80-meter high dam will be built for electricity generation.

The aforementioned dam will be built in an area encompassing over 63 kilometers. The water is estimated to be filled around 18 months after the construction of the dam. 

Jagat Shrestha has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Company. This week, the government has also established a central office in Kathmandu to advance the project. 

Around Rs 42 billion has already been spent on the project. The government has also collected over 72 billion from petroleum products at the rate of Rs 10 per liter for the project. The investment amount for the project is yet to be finalised.
