ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers: Nepal defeats USA

KATHMANDU, June 20: Nepal has won their second match of the ICC One Day International World Cup Qualifiers cricket tournament against USA on Tuesday. Nepal won the match by 6 wickets. 

Chasing the target of only 208 runs, Nepal passed the target by scoring 211 runs after losing four wickets in 43 overs.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, the USA scored 207 runs before being all out in 49 overs. 

Bhim Sarki, the number three batsman, made a significant contribution to Nepal's competitive victory. He scored an unbeaten 77 runs. He stayed at the crease for a long time, faced 114 balls and hit one six and seven fours.

Opener batsman Kushal Bhurtel scored 39 runs on 54 balls with the help of one six and four fours. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh shared a 25-run partnership for the opening wicket. Wicketkeeper batsman Aasif returned to the pavilion after 12 runs.

Captain Rohit Paudel scored 16 runs while Kushal Malla was dismissed for 13 runs. Experienced player Dipendra Singh Airee scored an unbeaten 39 runs facing 32 balls. He hit one six and five fours. Nepal got 15 extra runs. 

American bowlers Steven Taylor, Saurabh Netravalkar, Nosthush Kenjige and Nisarg Patel took one wicket each.

For USA, the American batsman Shayan Jahangir scored an unbeatable century of 100 runs. He hit 10 fours and 3 sixes facing 79 balls. The opener batsman Sushant Modani scored 42 runs with the help of 3 fours and a six facing 71 balls. 

Gajanand Singh contributed 26 runs with the help of 2 fours and a six while facing 41 balls. Jessy Singh also contributed 12 runs on 25 balls. Other batsmen, however, could not make runs in double figures.

Karan KC took four wickets for Nepal, while Gulsan Jha took three, Dipendra Singh Airee two, and Lalit Rajbanshi took one. Nepal had used 7 bowlers against the USA.

The ODI World Cup Qualifiers is being held in Zimbabwe. Now Nepal will be playing its third match of the group stage against the West Indies on June 22 and its final match against the Netherlands on June 24.

Two top teams out of the 10 participating teams will be playing in the World Cup which is going to be held in India.
