Flood-landslide disaster in eastern Nepal: 25 missing, 1 dead
KATHMANDU, June 18: 25 people have gone missing in the flood and landslide that occurred in eastern Nepal after the heavy rainfall last night. Police have informed that 1 person has died in the disaster.
Seven houses have been swept away by the flood last night in Hewakhola of the Sankhuwasabha district. Police Chief of the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Birendra Godar, informed that 16 workers working in the Super Hewakhola Hydropower have gone out of contact.
According to the police, a body of a laborer working in the Upper Hewakhola Hydropower, which was swept away by the flood, was found on the banks of the Panchkhapan Municipality-5 river, but the body is yet to be identified.
The Super Hewa Hydro under construction at Chainpur-4 has been completely damaged by the flood. The flood has damaged the motorable bridge under construction connecting Panchkhapan and Chainpur.
Five people have gone missing after the flood in Panchthar that occurred after the heavy rainfall. The flood has also swept the Hewakhola bridge connecting Fidim Municipality-4 and Hilihang Rural Municipality-7 of the Panchthar district, which has completely obstructed the Mechi highway.
Similarly, three people of the same family are also missing after a landslide in Mehele of Sidingwa Rural Municipality in Taplejung.
