Private Sector signs agreement to sell 200 MW of electricity to India
KATHMANDU, April 19: Companies promoted by the private sector of Nepal and India have made an agreement for electricity trade. In the 'Power Summit' that started yesterday in Kathmandu, the private sector of Nepal and India have signed an agreement to sell electricity up to 200 megawatts.
Nepal Power Exchange (NEPEX), which was established by the private sector of Nepal with the aim of trading electricity abroad, has signed an agreement for electricity trading with the private sector of India. NEPEX has made a 'Power Trade Agreement' with India's Steelmint to sell 200 MW of electricity.
Uttam Blon, director of the company, said that they signed a contract during the Power Summit. He also said that he is hopeful that even if the Nepal government has not given the license for electricity trade to the private sector, it will give the license in the future.
