Champions League: Inter Milan in the lead against Benfica
LISBON, April 12: Italian giants Inter Milan have defeated Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals after Romelu Lukaku scored from a penalty shot in the 82nd minute. By winning 2-0 in the away match, Inter strengthened their chances of entering the semi-finals of the competition.
Although the first half ended in a goalless draw, Nicolo Barella gave Inter the lead with a heading goal at the beginning of the second half. Benfica could not hold the rhythm in their home ground while Inter displayed excellent defense.
At the end of the game, Inter got a penalty after a handball by Joao Mario, which Lukaku easily converted into a goal.
Simon Inzaghi's team will now be hoping to easily enter the semi-finals in their home match on 19 April. Before this, Inter had not gotten any wins in the last 6 matches.
