Nepal U-19 national cricket team secures position in World Cup
KATHMANDU, March 2: Nepal U-19 national cricket team secured its position in World Cup to be held in 2024 in Sri Lanka beating the United Arab Emirates by six runs in a match played between Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Asia Qualifier 2023. It is the first time Nepal has qualified for the Cup after 2016.
Batting first Nepal had set a target of 192 runs. UAE on its part scored 185 runs in the loss of all wickets in 48 overs.
The 50-over international tournament involved sixteen teams. Out of these sixteen teams, eleven teams have secured their place in the 2024 World Cup by being the top-ranked full-member nations in the previous edition of the tournament held in 2022. These eleven teams are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.
