Policeman who baton-charges doctor suspended

KATHMANDU, Feb. 11: The policeman who baton-charged a doctor during President Bidya Devi Bhandari's ride has been suspended. Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Poshraj Pokharel informed Ratopati that Senior Constable Shambhujang Gurung has been suspended by District Police Range Kathmandu.

Gurung was working in the public service of the police circle. On Friday, a lifetime member of the Nepal Physicians Association and senior Orthopedic surgeon of the National Trauma Center Dr. Janithlal Singh was seriously injured by the police inside the hospital premises by baton-charging.

Singh, a doctor working in a sensitive field like healthcare, was brutally attacked by the police inside the hospital premises even though he showed his identity card while leaving home after completing an operation.
