Internet services may be interrupted at any time: ISPAN

KATHMANDU, Jan. 2: The service providers have warned that the Internet may be disrupted at any time because the Nepal Electricity Authority is cutting wires in the name of pole rent. The Internet Service Providers' Association of Nepal (ISPAN) on Monday warned that the service may be disrupted at any time as the Electricity Authority unilaterally increased the pole rent and did not listen to their demands.
ISPAN has alleged that consumers will also be affected due to the rental rates of the Authority, as it is contrary to the spirit of Digital Nepal, and a high-level committee of the state has been formed and given a report, but the Authority has refused to implement the said report. In a press conference, the president of ISPAN, Sudhir Parajuli, said that the authority is pushing to make an agreement to pay the old rent and also to pay the increased rent, and they are cutting the internet cable in the name of rent.
He mentioned that the Electricity Authority itself has forcibly increased the pole rent by 600 to 700 percent and also violated human rights.
