Commission proposes election of National Assembly members on Magh 25
KATHMANDU, Jan. 2: The Election Commission has proposed to the government to hold an election for a vacant post of National Assembly member on the 25th of Magh. Chief Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya made this proposal in a discussion with Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Monday.
Before the elections on Mangsir 4, one member's post became vacant after the resignation of National Assembly member Khimlal Bhattarai, who was elected from Lumbini.
The Government of Nepal has specified that, if a member's term of office continues for more than 6 months and the position becomes vacant for any reason, there is a provision that the Commission should conduct a by-election within 35 days from the date of vacancy for the remaining period on the date specified. In the statement issued by the commission on Monday, it was said, "According to the provisions of the commission giving written advice to the government to set the date, the commission has advised the government of Nepal to set the date of the election to hold the by-election of members of the National Assembly on Wednesday 25th of Magh."
