Ukraine is being led by an artist, so don’t underestimate us: KC

KATHMANDU, April 11: Unnat Loktantrik has given an opportunity to an artist to file a nomination for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolis in the upcoming local polls. I am grateful to the party for believing in me. 

My decision to contest for the post of Kathmandu’s Mayor in the upcoming polls have aroused many positive and negative comments, questions and doubts among the general public. I am also grateful for those negative comments which have helped me learn lessons that will shape my upcoming journeys. 

My decision to contest in the local elections has brought an excitement among the film fraternity and movie lovers. Many believe that artists and actors are not capable in politics. However, I believe that actors and artists are well informed and responsible. They atleast have knowledge of their working field and it is way better than those who only know how to deliver a speech.

I was born and raised in Kathmandu, so I am well aware about the problems and situation of Kathmandu. I don’t know how to lie to the general public and ask for votes. 

Our country is deteriorating day by day and we must serve our people and nation from the heart. Our youths are victims of brain drain and are compelled to leave the country and I am well aware about it. Besides, my films also reflect on the situation of the country, youths and various problems that we are facing as Kathmanduites.

Can an artist/actor govern the country?

I have heard people saying that artists or actors are not capable in political sectors. But, I don’t agree. What I believe is that artists or actors do not know how to do dirty politics. No one should underestimate actors and artists.

We all know the President of Ukraine. He was a comedian before being elected as the country’s president. He is currently fighting with his life to save the country. It is a good example that shows how capable artists and actors can be.

Development plans and policies of our political leaders are just paper oriented and limited in their speeches. If they were capable and if they had done their duty, why would some artists or doctors or any people who are not politicians, have to contest in the election?

So far, I have not joined any party. In the local election of 2074 BS, I supported the CPN-UML. After that, I have not joined any political party. So far I am independent.
