If Maoist Center opts for election, only 299 central members to cast votes to elect party’s office bearers

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: The CPN (Maoist Center) is currently desperately trying to elect its central committee members and the office bearers through a consensus avoiding election in its ongoing 8th General Convention being held in Kathmandu.

The party has time and again announced the election of its new leaders through consensus. The party on Saturday postponed its closed-door session till 1 PM Sunday in a bid to elect its office bearers and central committee members.

Even if the party opts for election failing to reach a consensus, not all the delegates of the convention i.e 1,742 will be casting their votes to elect new office bearers but only 299 central committee members. These 299 central committee members will be elected from among 1,742 delegates.

Despite the ongoing efforts to reach a consensus, the party has published the election schedule. The registration of the nomination will begin after 2 PM today as per the schedule.

So far, it has been certain that incumbent Chairman of the party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be re-elected in the same post as no leaders of the party has filed candidacy or decided to contest for the post in the ongoing general convention of the party.
