Legal practitioners scuffle with police personnel as NBA continues protests at SC (with photos)

KATHMANDU: Legal practitioners engaged in a scuffle with police personnel during the protest staged by the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Tuesday.

The clash erupted as police prevented the lawyers close to the NBA from entering the Supreme Court (SC) premises.

The NBA has been staging protests on the SC premises for the past weeks demanding CJ Rana step down as the chief of the judiciary.

Rana was embroiled in controversy of late after he was accused of claiming a share in the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet.

Despite the calls for his ‘immediate’ resignation by the Nepal Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella organization of lawyers, Chief Justice Rana has been assigning cases to his fellow justices at the Supreme Court (SC) for the past two weeks.
