Prohibitory order in Janakpurdham extended till 10 PM Tuesday

KATHMANDU, November 15: The prohibitory order enforced in Janakpurdham of Dhanusha district following a clash between two communities has been extended till 10:00 pm Tuesday.

Chief District Officer (CDO) in Janakpur, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, shared that the prohibitory order in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-20 was extended till 10:00 pm Tuesday.

A heated dispute ensued between the Hindu and Muslim communities regarding constructing ghat to offer argha (curd) during Chhath festival at Janakpurdham-20 last Saturday. Following this, the prohibitory order was enforced the same day.

CDO Bastola shared that the extension of prohibitory order was for maintaining peace and security by thwarting untoward incidents in the locality.

District Administration Office (DAO)Dhanusha has put a ban on organizing rallies, protest demonstrations and gatherings along the Janakpurdham-Jatahi road section.

The prohibitory order came into effect from 2 PM, Saturday.

Earlier, police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to take control of the situation where people from two communities clashed against each other.

The clash was followed by the dispute over the construction of Ghat which was made to make offerings [Arghya] to Sun God during the Chhath festival.

Three people including two police personnel were injured during the clash, according to Basanta Rajaure, deputy superintendent of police.
