Karnali Province Chief calls assembly members to stake claim to CM post
Chief of Karnali Province Govinda Prasad Kalauni has called the members of the provincial assembly to stake claim to the post of chief minister.
In the context of no political party having a clear majority in the provincial assembly, the members are called to claim for CM post ensuring majority with the support of two or more political parties within 7:30 PM Tuesday.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi had tendered resignation before Province Chief Kalauni in accordance with Article 169 (1.a) of the Constitution of Nepal on Monday. The Province Chief had approved Shahi's resignation and called for a new government giving a 24-hour deadline on Monday itself.
A press release issued by Shahi mentioned that he tendered resignation as part of the implementation of the agreement with Nepali Congress on ruling the provincial government. Shahi was appointed the CM on February 15, 2018.
The NC then in opposition later joined the government with two ministers from the party as per latest agreement for power-sharing with CPN (Maoist Center).
It is said NC parliamentary party leader Jivan Bahadur Shahi is becoming the new CM as per agreement among NC, Maoist Centre and CPN (Unified Socialist).
There are 12 members of the Maoist Center, 6 of NC and three of CPN (Unified Socialist) in the Karnali province assembly.
