SC fails to pass verdict on ‘Lalita Niwas land scam’ filed against Ex-PMs Bhattarai and Nepal on Monday

KATHMANDU, November 1: Impacted by the deepening Judicial deadlock, the Supreme Court (SC) has failed to pass its verdict on the ‘Lalita Niwas land scam case’ filed against former prime ministers duo Babu Ram Bhattarai and Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Earlier, the apex court was scheduled to pass the verdict on the case on November 1. Hearing on the case was conducted before the Dashain festival.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to bench only six habeas corpus petitions on Monday as the Supreme Court justices have been boycotting the benches.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Bar Association has initiated a sit-in protest at the apex court from Sunday demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendre Shumsher JBR accusing him of demanding a share in Cabinet and defaming the Judiciary.

Following a week-long visit of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to the United Kingdom and the House session being prorogued, the judicial deadlock is likely to deepen further and sees no immediate solution.
