CJ Rana says he won’t resign

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has said that he will not step down from his position.

During a discussion with the justices of the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday, CJ Rana said he would not tender resignation under any pressure.

CJ Rana and the justices discussed for about 45 minutes.

“I was appointed the chief justice through a constitutional process. I need not resign under any pressure,” a high-level SC source said quoting CJ Rana. “Questions are being raised over you [other justice] as well, can you also resign?”

Following the discussion with the chief justice, 15 justices also held an informal internal discussion.

Nepal Bar Association (NBA), former chief justices and some advocates are of the view that CJ Rana should step down after he has been dragged into controversies of late.
