Nepal Bar Association seeks CJ Rana’s resignation

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella organization of legal practitioners, has sought the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana.

A meeting of the association held on Monday concluded that CJ Rana should pave the way to ‘maintain the prestige of judiciary’.

NBA Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha said that the meeting of the office-bearers maintained that CJ Rana should step down from the position as the head of the judiciary to end the ongoing deadlock.

The association, however, is preparing to release its formal opinion only after a meeting of the advisory committee which is due to be held on Tuesday. The advisory committee comprises former chairpersons, office bearers of the valley bar and former office-bearers of the association.

The association, on Sunday, demanded CJ Rana hold a full-court meeting of the Supreme Court. The meeting, scheduled for Monday afternoon, could not take place.
