UML Chair Oli virtually  inaugurates conventions of 6,743 wards

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, on Saturday, inaugurated the party’s conventions in 6,743 wards across the country.

The main opposition is holding the ward conventions throughout the country as part of the party’s Tenth National General Convention.

Chairman Oli marked the beginning of ward conventions virtually from the party’s head office in Thapathali.

Party members will elect the ward committees in each of the wards including five office bearers --- a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, a secretary and two deputy secretaries.

Following Saturday’s conventions, each ward in rural municipalities and municipalities will have 31-member ward committees while there will be 41-member committees in each ward of sub-metropolitan cities and 51 in metropolises.

UML said that all the wards will get new leadership on Saturday itself.

The ward conventions in flood-affected districts, however, will be held at a later date.

The ward-level conventions will be followed by local level conventions starting on October 25. The Tenth General Convention of the CPN-UML will be held in Chitwan, Bagmati Province from November 26 to 28.
