Gandaki CM Gurung to take trust vote on Thursday, here’s composition of province assembly

KATHMANDU, June 8: Prithvi Subba Gurung, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, who was reappointed on May 12 as the leader of the largest political party in the province, said that he would take a vote from the Gandaki Province Assembly on Thursday.

Chief Minister (CM)  Gurung is required to obtain a vote from the province assembly within 30 days of his appointment as the chief minister as per the Article 167 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal.

CM Gurung registered a letter at the Secretariat of the Gandaki Province Assembly on Tuesday afternoon, according to Hariraj Pokharel, secretary of the assembly.

He should muster at least 31 votes to win the trust motion in the 60-member province assembly. Gurung, however, has the support of only 28 assembly members.

The opposition alliance comprising the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) stands strong with 32 votes. RJM’s Krishna Thapa, however, said he would vote for Gurung.
