Four parties stake their claim for new govt formation in Gandaki Province
POKHARA, May 12: Four political parties have handed over a letter to Gandaki Province Chief staking a claim to form a new government in the province. Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha submitted a letter to Governor Sita Poudel.
“A letter was submitted to the Governor as per the Article 168 (2) to form an alternative government under the leadership of Congress party as we hold the support of the majority of province assembly members,” said Ramji Baral, an NC lawmaker.
After Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung resigned from his post a day before a no-confidence motion against him was scheduled to be acted upon, Province Chief Sita Poudel invited the political parties to stake their claim for the formation of a new government by 4 PM on Tuesday.
The alliance proposed the name of Krishna Chandra Pokhrel, a Congress lawmaker as the new chief minister of the province.
