Nepal registers record high COVID-19 new cases of 5,763

KATHMANDU, May 1: As many as 5,763 new cases of coronavirus were reported from across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
It’s the highest single-day spike of the COVID-19 cases in the country. Nepal had reported 5,743 cases on October 21 earlier last year.
The Kathmandu Valley witnessed 2,495 cases including 1,932 in Kathmandu district, 355 in Lalitpur and 208 others in Bhaktapur.
Similarly, 19 people succumbed to the virus in this period as the country is grappling with the second wave of coronavirus. With this, the national tally of COVID-19 deaths reached 3,296 so far. To date, 328,893 people have been infected with the virus while 282,382 have recovered. As many as 43,213 people are yet to recover from the disease as of Saturday.
