More than 5,000 coronavirus infection cases reported on Saturday

Kathmandu - Five thousand and eight new cases of coronavirus infection, including 2,672 in the Kathmandu Valley, have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, Prof Dr Jageshwor Gautam, speaking at a regular press briefing, shared that the number of people returning home after recovering from COVID-19 is 1,229 in the last 24 hours.

The number of active infection cases throughout the country has reached 30 thousand 818. The number of persons in institutional isolation is 13 thousand 654. There are 1,477 infected cases in State 1, five hundred and nine in State 2, nine thousand one hundred and three in Bagmati State, 625 in Gandaki State, one thousand two hundred and seventy two in Lumbini State, 554 in Karnali State and 114 in Sudurpaschim State.

Similarly, the number of people in home isolation is 17 thousand 164 including 2,164 in State 1, five hundred and seventy nine in State 2, eleven thousand two hundred and six in Bagmati State, 508 in Gandaki State, one thousand five hundred and eighty four in Lumbini State, 411 in Karnali State and 640 in Sudurpaschim State. Nineteen thousand 320 PCR tests have been done in the last 24 hours.

With this, one million 164 thousand 557 PCR tests have been carried out so far. The number of people in quarantine is 4,686. Province-wise, it is 441 in State 1, one hundred and twenty-eight in State 2, three hundred and ninety-six in Bagmati State, 611 in Gandaki State, 1,507 in Lumbini State, 442 in Karnali State, 1,161 in Sudurpaschim State.

Seventy four thousand 252 people have so far returned home after becoming free of infection. This figure is 70.2 per cent. Number of sick people in ICU care throughout the country is 321 while 77 people are on ventilator support. So far, 614 people have succumbed to COVID-19.

The districts with more than 500 infections include Morang, Sunsari, Banke, Surkhet, Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Chitwan, Bhaktapur and Rupandehi. The districts without a single case of infection are Manang and Mustang. The global caseload of COVID-19 infection has reached 37 million 152 thousand 125 while the number of those recovered is 27 million 918 thousand 636.
