1,559 new coronavirus cases including 902 in Kathmandu

Kathmandu - A total of 1,559 new cases of coronavirus has been confirmed across the nation in last 24 hours. With this, the total number of coronavirus infections has reached 77,817. In a regular press briefing today at the Ministry of Health and Population, Spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam said that the new number of coronavirus cases was confirmed in 12,205 PCR tests carried out in in last 24 hours. A total of 1,021,503 PCR tests have been carried out so far.

On the occasion, it was shared that a total of 1,057 people returned home after recovery from coronavirus in last 24 hours. With this, number of people discharged after recovery has reached 56,428. The recovery percentage as of today is 72.5 per cent. The Kathmandu Valley recorded 902 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, which is the second highest number recorded so far.

According to the Ministry, 159 people tested positive for coronavirus in State 1 while coronavirus was confirmed on 50 people in State 2 in last 24 hours. Similarly, 1,036 people tested positive for coronavirus in Bagmati State, 91 people in Gandaki State, 127 in State 5, 55 in Karnali State and 42 in Sudurpaschim State in last 24 hours.

Spokesperson Dr Gautam added that a total of 10,804 people are in home isolation, 10,087 people in institutional isolation and 5,428 in quarantine facilities. A total of 201 coronaviurs infected people are receiving treatment in ICU and 30 with the help of ventilator, according to the Ministry. A total of seven people including two women and five men lost their lives from coronavirus infection in last 24 hours.

A 60-year-old man of Sunsari, 60-year-old man from Morang, 39-year-old man from Saptari, 34-year-old woman, 86-year-old woman and 54-year-old man from Kathmandu, and 82-year-old man from Rupandehi died from COVID-19. With this, the total number of people who have died from coronavirus has reached 498 so far.
