Two bridges come into operation in Kathmandu

Kathmandu - Two bridges built over the Dhobikhola rivulet have been brought into operation. The bridges link the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)'s ward no 5 and 7. KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and deputy-mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi jointly inaugurated the bridges today. The two bridges were constructed at a cost of one million 674 thousand rupees.

More than 300 people are expected to use the bridges daily. On the occasion, mayor Shakya said, "The people themselves will evaluate our works. Works like construction of parks, identification of public land that has been encroached upon, improvement of roads and transport system, easing the the travel of pedestrians and heritage conservation are in the KMC's priority.

" Deputy-mayor Khadgi reiterated that KMC was always committed to fulfilling the people's aspirations and needs. KMC ward no 7 chairman Suddha Kumar Dangol said the people of the two wards have been directly benefited from the operation of the two bridges. KMC has been constructing overhead bridges at seven locations in the metropolis.

The construction of the overhead bridges has reached the last stages at Maitighar and Chabahil, it is stated. Overhead bridges are also being constructed at Teku, Kalimati, Koteshwar, Tripureshwar and other locations which see large number of commuters.
