NC office-bearers meet to discuss party general convention schedule

Kathmandu - A meeting of the office-bearers of Nepali Congress today is to discuss the party's 14th General Convention schedule affected by the COVID-19 crisis. According to party office chief secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, the meeting to take place at the party central office, Sanepa will discuss the general convention schedule ahead. Besides this, the meeting will seek ways for mounting pressure on the government for further effectiveness in the prevention and treatment of coronavirus.

Earlier on January 27, the NC central committee meeting published the schedule of convention for party's subordinate bodies and the 14th general convention. As per the calendar, the month from Fagun to Chaita, 2076 BS was fixed for the distribution of new active membership by party's House of Representatives electoral executive committee and the renewal of active memberships by respective district executive committees. Though the forms for active membership were already taken to the districts, the distribution and renew were affected by the crisis.

Similarly village to district conventions were fixed in between upcoming November 1 to 9. The State convention was scheduled for upcoming December 14 and the general convention was scheduled to start from February 19 next year in Kathmandu.

Poudel predicted the possibility of changing dates for other conventions, keeping the date earlier fixed for the central convention unchanged. The party had held its 13th Central Convention in Kathmandu on March 3-6, 2016. The party statute determines a four-year term for office bearers and members of all levels.

In odd situation, it provides a room for extending the term by one year by the central committee. Acting on this provision, the tenure of all office bearers and members were extended by a year to be effective from December 27, 2019.
