Meeting of Sudurpaschim State Assembly postponed

Kathmandu - The meeting of the Sudurpaschim State Assembly has been adjourned today due to obstruction by the opposition parties, the Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party. The Assembly members from the opposition parties stood up from their seats soon after the Speaker Arjun Bahadur Thapa started the meeting and obstructed it.

The Speaker requested the legislators to take their seats and allow the Assembly to proceed with its business as it was the first day of discussions on the budget. However, the opposition party legislators did not heed the Speaker. After this the Speaker gave time to one of the opposition lawmakers to speak.

Following this, Dr Rana Bahadur Rawal, the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, protested saying that people kept in quarantine were being sent home without carrying out health check-up, that the risk of coronavirus infection has increased as they were not subjected to PCR test and the poor management of the quarantine.

He accused the government of negligence in all these aspects and demanded making arrangements for health check-up through PCR method at the earliest. He also called for better management of the quarantines and making the COVID-19 prevention and control effective. The Speaker announced that the meeting has been adjourned as the opposition parties continued protesting even after this.
