Memo handed over to PM to curb COVID-19 spread

Kathmandu - Locals of Belhiya in bordering area in Kapilvastu district have handed over a memorandum (memo) to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli through their Chief District Officer (CDO) to do the needful to curb the spread of COVID-19 in their locality. The locality which is in bordering places receives many goods-ferrying vehicles on a daily basis. The locals are frightful that the drivers and the co-drivers of those vehicles could contract COVID-19 and spread the infection to any of them anytime. The staffers at the custom office here are also prone to infection, stated the memo.

The locals handed over a 13-point memo to CDO Mahadev Pant, drawing attention of the government to protect the officials in the custom office here and sanitized the containers and vehicles coming in from India, carrying essential supplies. They have also appealed to the PM to put in place necessary safety measures in the bordering places to screen the people entering Nepal from bordering places in India.

They also have urged for regulating the vehicles and restrict their movements once they enter Nepal, so as to stem the spread of the deadly infection. They have also appealed to the PM to order the local authority to keep record of the drivers and co-drivers entering Nepal and make mandatory use of safety gears such as masks, gloves and sanitizers among the staffers working in the custom officers as well as bordering areas.
