Civil society leaders demand promotion of RTI

Kathmandu - Civil society leaders have appealed to all levels of government and public bodies to be responsible towards the people by further promoting right to information. The leaders have jointly called on to continuously inform the general people about the activities carried out to prevent and control the coronavirus at a time when the COVID-19 has been spreading across the world and to disseminate factual news on it.

Office-bearers of different organizations including Executive Chief of Freedom Forum, Taranath Dahal, today drew the attention of the government in this regard. Chairperson of Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal, Subas Khatiwada, said all bodies should play coordinating role to control the risk of coronavirus.

Similarly, chairperson of NGO Federation, Bhabraj Regmi, stressed people should be informed about the measures taken to be safe from the coronavirus by disseminating information on time to prevent the risk of COVID-19.

Likewise, senior vice-chair of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bipul Pokharel, national coordinator of National Network for the Right of Access to Information, Umid Chand, president of Nepal Press Union, Badri Sigdel, said that general people should be informed about smooth supply of daily essentials, medicines and other necessity services and all the state bodies should be responsible towards the people.

They also demanded the dissemination of information through one-door policy, information update on website, apps and social network.
