Will clear the contradictions in between exercises and needs: DPM Pokhrel

Kathmandu–Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokhrel has said that plan formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation should be carried out with effective resource mobilization in tandem with participation of all three layers of government for inclusive development and prosperous Nepal. At a programme in the capital today, the DPM claimed that the government was moving ahead on right track for development and prosperity by clearing the contradictions existing in the practice and needs.

"For this, development-friendly government policy and environment; partnership and coordination between public, cooperative and private sectors; hardworking people and public participation, and honest officials are needed," he argued.

Stating that there was still not cohesion in between laws, structures and policies in the changed system, Pokhrel said that there were still come grievances in service delivery though agriculture, industry, energy, tourism and infrastructure sectors were prioritized for development.

In a separate context, the DPM said, "We can accept the support of any country if it is in our national interests". Likewise, Minister for Finance Dr Yubraj Khatiwada said that the knowledge driven prosperity has huge market instead of the market to be created from capital and land resources.

"The major means of power at present is information technology. The state should be careful towards the deprivation of any community in the use of information technology. And, it can't be called prosperity if there remains questions from the perspective of gender inclusion despite immense development," Dr Khatiwada added.

On the occasion, former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr Swornim Wagle said that Nepal has to prioritize conservation of water resource, infrastructure development in subsidized economic assistance and quality agriculture production in low cost to increase the productivity.

Lawmaker Badri Prasad Pandey, Australian Ambassador to Nepal Peter Budd and others expressed their opinion on inclusive development, prosperity and other related aspects.
